There are many different pieces of equipment and tools you might need for your next DIY project. It can be tricky trying to figure out what you need and where to start, so we’ve put together a comprehensive buying guide to help make the process a little easier. From saws to hammers, screwdrivers to drills, we’ve got you covered!

Painting Supplies

Picking up a wide range of paintbrushes can be useful for different projects, whether you’re looking for something large/small/wide/narrow. Picking up angled brushes is also great if you plan on painting in hard-to-reach areas (such as underneath furniture).

And don’t forget that there are different types of bristles available – choosing the right one will depend on the type of project you have in mind and the types of paint you can see at https://regalpaint.co.uk/single-pack-floor-paint/.

If using traditional types of paints, always pick up some paint trays! Any stiff paintbrush should be suitable, but if you can invest in a good quality one it will make all the difference. Painting with a top-notch brush is much easier and creates better results.

A paint tray is something for your paint to sit in as you work, either disposable or reusable trays are fine. Also, a roller tray – if using rollers on large surfaces, ensure you have some tray liners to avoid staining the walls or floors around the area you are painting. For paint jobs, you’ll also need cleaning cloths/rags.

If using traditional paint application methods (brushes/rollers), having rags on hand is great for wiping away excess paint before it dries – otherwise, these tools can do the job for you. And lastly, painting stir sticks which are long wooden sticks with plastic or metal end – paint stirring sticks are useful when mixing paint to avoid spilling it over the work area.

Drills and Screwdrivers

A cordless drill is essential for screwdriver work. Not only does it make boring through screws much easier, but it can be used to cut through wood too – very useful! Also, pick up some drills bits (in varying sizes) and screwdriver bits (again in different shapes/sizes).

A magnetic bit holder that sits on top of your drill will keep the drill bit in place as you begin boring holes or putting screws into walls, doors, or furniture.

Cardboard Boxes

If you’re moving house, chances are you’ll need cardboard boxes – they’re an absolute essential which can be used for many things. Using them to put clothes away is a common one, but think about where around your home they could be utilized.

You can also use them to cover up or protect surfaces when painting, which is great for protecting the carpet. If you’re moving house, be sure to consider recycling your old boxes by storing them until you are ready to move!

Packing Tape

It’s always good to have some packing tape on hand in case of any broken or chipped glasses/plates – if you don’t want them falling apart while moving about, secure them with tape and keep safe.

Also, there are many types of different types out there, so make sure you buy the right one if need be (for example, masking tape won’t stick very well). Packing paper is another one worth considering, it can be used if you’re not confident in using cardboard boxes.

Hammers

It’s always good to have both a claw hammer and rubber mallet on hand – rubber mallets are useful for delicate jobs which you don’t want making dents or marks, whereas the claw side of the hammer can be used to take out nails that are protruding from walls or other surfaces.

Claw hammers are also great for hanging pictures, mirrors, etc without hurting the wall! Try not to use them to hang up shelves though as you’re more likely to end up damaging your walls/surfaces that way. A spirit level is another must-have which will help if you’re creating levels or trying to get something perfectly straight.

Glue and Glue Gun

Glue is a great way to fix many things around the home, from broken figurines to loose bricks. A hot glue gun can be used for an endless amount of different projects, from jewelry to favors – you name it, it can probably work with a glue gun!

Superglue is great for any small pieces that need sticking together, and also works well for sealing envelopes if you’re planning on sending out letters or cards. Keep in mind that, when working with a glue gun, you need to be very careful to avoid getting it on yourself or your clothes – hot glue is incredibly sticky and difficult to remove without causing damage.

This buying guide should’ve given you an idea of what tools and equipment to look for when undertaking your next DIY project. Good luck with your next project!
