You have been noticing a tiny drip and some crumbled granules. You surely think that a quick run to the hardware store and you could easily fix it. It can’t be that hard if all those people on the videos you watched online can do it. Also, you are thinking of the repair cost that you could save.

Agreed that repairing costs of roofs are high. But have you stopped to wonder why? Let us tell you that you are not just paying for repairing your roof but for professionals who will spot the exact damage (a tiny leak in the roof is not a tiny problem to fix) and repair it with knowledge and experience gathered in years!

If you are not a professional roofer or planning to become one, we cannot think of a single reason why fixing your roof yourself is a good idea. Take a look at a few disasters you can invite by trying to fix your roofing problem.

You Can Put Yourself In Danger

This alone should be a reason for you to drop the idea. There are numerous health hazards you can run into. A professional roofer is trained and well-equipped with safety measures. ‘What about those on DIY videos’, you ask.

They are probably surrounded by a crew who are keeping guard around them. No one risks their life to make a video tutorial, do they? A roofing professional has probably done years of work in the same field, that they can easily spot a damaged roof from an unsafe one. So unless you are 100 per cent sure your roof is safe, stay away from it!

You Can Worsen The Repair

So you have got new shingles and they will now direct the rain in the right direction. It doesn’t happen and you are flooded or have a sagging roof. Don’t blame the shingles yet!

Several elements on the roof work together to direct the water in the right direction like shingles, gutters, and much more. A good roofer keeps all these elements aligned to work together. Missing out on any of these details will only worsen your problem costing you more money and time.

Good Luck With Insurance Claims

So you still went ahead and used all your finesse acquired from DIY tutorials to fix your roof and ended up caving your roof in. Once you have recovered from your accident (Trust us when we say you will need recovery), you will have to rush to your insurance company to claim for the damage.

Surely, once you tell them the reason that caused the damage were you trying to fix your roof, they will downright deny your claim. It could be even worse if you hurt someone else when your roof collapses, so you will not only end up paying from your pocket to repair the bigger damage but also medical bills.

Your Work Looks Shabby

Oh, the woes added to using DIY tutorials to fix your roof just seem to get worse with every reason we add. You may have lost more money than you intended, risking your life, and what worse, your doesn’t even look and appears rather shabby!

Professional roofers don’t only carefully work on your roofing problems but also make sure it looks good. A beautiful-looking roof can make your house look beautiful too. Maybe it’s not the first thing people will see but they will definitely stop and notice a shabby-looking roof.

A rippled-looking roof or shingles which are not fixed in uniformity will look less appealing and these can further defect the rooftop.

While trying to use a DIY approach to fixing your roof is not ideal, neither is blindly trusting the first roofer you meet and handing him your wallet! It’s best to research for a professional roofer and understand the problem to have a long-lasting safe roof to live under!
