Tap water is safe to drink, right? It comes out of the tap and goes down the drain. But what if you don’t trust your city’s water because it has a funny aftertaste or leaves an oily film on your dishes? What if there are signs that it could be contaminated with lead or other contaminants? How can you treat it and make it safe for drinking? That’s why you should read this article before deciding what to do.

Cleaning the Water with Household Chlorine

If you are using chlorine bleach to treat your water, make sure to use the right amount. Do not use more than one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water. To make it safer for drinking, let it sit in an open container overnight before adding yeast or some other source of sugar. This will allow the chlorine to dissipate, but do not let it sit open longer than 24 hours. The next day, seal up the container and place it in a sunny area for disinfection. You can buy chlorine tablets or crystals at most hardware or pool stores.  The chlorine will kill any harmful bacteria in the water.

Adding a Filter To Your Faucet

You can also buy filters that you can attach to your faucet. You can read the reviews on Water Filter Guru so you can make the right choice when buying a new filter. These filters will remove lead, mercury, chlorine, and other chemicals from the water. They will even take out fluoride if you buy a filter that is specifically designed to remove it. You can attach these filters yourself or have a plumber do it for you. It only takes a few minutes, and most of the cost will be labor unless your faucet has special requirements.

If you don’t want to buy a filter, you can also install a carbon filter on your faucet. This will remove chlorine and other chemicals from the water. It is not as effective at removing lead as some of the other filters, but it is better than nothing.

By Reverse Osmosis System

Reverse osmosis systems are a great way to purify your water. The water purification system will remove 99% of the contaminants in the water. The more expensive models have a micron filter to remove sediment, bacteria, chlorine, fluoride, arsenic, and nitrates. It also gets rid of lead and other heavy metals. Reverse osmosis washes away all impurities quickly so that the water coming out of the faucet is safe to drink.

You can install a reverse osmosis system yourself or have a plumber do it for you. The system forces water molecules through a fine filter, which removes most of the impurities in the water. This is a good choice if you are concerned about lead or other heavy metals in your water.

By Distilling The Water

Distillation is the process of boiling water to remove impurities. Then, it condenses back into a purified form. The impurities are left behind in the boiling container. The cool steam that comes into contact with the air will turn back into the water. You can purchase distillers that you can use at home or have your plumber install one for you if you live in an area with hard water or other problems with your water.

This is a good option for removing lead, nitrates, arsenic, salts, and other impurities from the water. If you are not concerned about taking out chemicals or heavy metals, one way to purify your water is by distilling it.  You can then drink the water or use it for cooking.

Installing a Water Softener

If you have hard water, you can install a water softener to make it safe for drinking. Hard water is water that has high mineral content. This can cause problems with your appliances, your plumbing, and even your skin. A water softener will get rid of the minerals in the water and make it softer. This is a good option if you are concerned about the hardness of your water or the high mineral content.

You can also buy a filter that will remove these minerals from the water. A water softener is a good option if you have hard water, but it is not effective at removing lead or other chemicals from the water.

Clean the Water with a UV Light Purifier

UV Light Purifier purifies the water by pushing it through ultraviolet light and chemicals which clean out bacteria, viruses, and algae. To make this purifier at home you need a clear liter bottle, a black marker, a UV penlight, and some electrical tape. You should decorate the bottle with permanent ink and then wrap it around the penlight. Then to use, you must turn on your purifier, place it in a container of water, and shine the light through the water until it’s completely clear. If you can’t find a UV Light Purifier for this method or other methods mentioned here, you can also use chlorine bleach as a water disinfectant.

Water is essential for our survival because it helps regulate the body’s temperature, transports nutrients and oxygen to cells, regulates pH balance in the bloodstream, aids digestion with enzymes that help break down food particles. This article has provided you with different ways you can make tap water safe for drinking by making sure your water is clean enough to drink or processing it into a more suitable form of hydration.
